'For character layout and design, Louise Zingarelli, who worked with
Ralph on Rings, really connected with Pop’s sensibilities. “She immediately
got the tone and tenacity of the picture,” he says. “You couldn’t help but
fall in love with her drawings — they have a soul, a depth that you don’t
find much. You knew how poor and troubled and impassioned each of
Louise’s characters were just by looking at the wrinkles in their faces. But
they’re so damn detailed, animators were getting carpel tunnel trying to
make them move.” Bakshi Productions mainstays Johnnie Vita, Barry
Jackson, and Marcia Adams also brought their own personal touch to the
picture, infusing Pop with a century’s worth of pain and performance.'
