Sequence BA · Scene 26 · Cel #85
Ralph Bakshi’s The Lord of the Rings, 1978 A beautiful and pivotal moment between Gandalf and Frodo, as the wizard places the enormous responsibility of the One Ring into the young hobbit’s hands: “And now, Frodo, the decision lies with you. What will you do with the One Ring?” The composition captures the heart of their relationship—Gandalf can advise, warn and guide, but ultimately the choice must belong to Frodo. Against the luminous landscape of Middle-earth, Frodo’s worried expression contrasts beautifully with Gandalf’s steady presence beside him. This two-cel setup captures a quiet turning point in the story: the moment when Frodo must choose whether to accept the burden that will change his life—and the fate of Middle-earth.
